Our work for Medéa

Medéa came to us to bring more impact to their advertising and introduce two new products.

Medéa makes RAID systems for video editing applications. RAIDs are storage systems that use multiple hard drives to split or repeat data--either for greater speed of access and throughput, or to provide superior data integrity. Medéa makes the former: RAID 0 (zero) configurations, which split data precisely between two drives, 'striping' the data. Medéa manages to do this without using SCSI technology, which can be problematical and pricey. More important, they apply some proprietary technology that maintains throughput at high levels, from the beginning to the end of the data stream, unlike SCSI drives, whose performace drops dramatically as they fill up.

The problem? How to communicate the end benefit: which is the ability to deliver more minutes of video, without having to compress it, at a lower price than SCSI alternatives.

The introductory ad had to break through, in media (DV magazine, VideoMaker, CamCorder, etc.) which carry pretty flashy advertising. Fortunately, Medea had taken some cheesy product intro shots with a pretty model... so with a little retouching (sorry you can't see it here) the difference between overcompressed video and acceptably-compressed video is illustrated in a split-screen effect on the young lady's face.

Medéa was able to develop a SCSI-compatible version of their RAIDs, which works with the larger portion ofthe video-editing market using Macs and SGI workstations (as well as upgraded Wintel machines).

Medéa had been getting calls every day asking for a Mac version, and we thought: why not reflect this market reality in our ad... reality enhanced by a little photo retouching.

And recently, they've introduced their fastest RAID yet: the RT

In order to provide Medéa with sales materials to use at the 1998 NAB show, we designed and produced (with ink jet printing) a product line brochure in eight days. Later, we refined it somewhat and produced a final version.
